RE: The Future of Teenage Blogs

I came across Rich's segment http://richohanian.wordpress.com/on teenage blogging and I have to agree with what he wrote and with the sources he quoted (to an extent). It is true that anything posted on the web will forever be held over your head. Instead of people pulling out yearbooks to mock your Senior picture they can now print out your blog on everything and anything you had expressed. It can and will be embarrassing if people are not careful with what they post.

We all want to feel that what we say will be private and that it will not be thrown back at us in the future during a campaign or when some of us become famous or what ever it may be. We want a place to express our feelings and thoughts but we need to know that it is available for everyone to see, Rich had talked about the privacy settings on certain sites such as Facebook, and I think everyone should set their profiles to private if they are concerned with what might come back to them. I think that when blogging or having profiles (ie. MySpace, Facebook, Friendster) one has to realize that they have to use good judgement on what they post. I personally have may profiles set to private just because I post for my friends not complete strangers that have no involvement in my life.

It is funny how technology has changed the way most of us communicate these days. We can all admit to the fact that we use all these profiles and blogging as a substitute for calling our close friends. We leave comments or post blogs about what is happening in our lives and it is more efficient then calling all 200 or so friends listed on our sites. In the end what we post like what we say can not be taken back, but the only difference is what we post can be printed.
